Is Your Child Ill?

Is your child well enough to go to school?

Sometimes children are too sick to go to school. Here are some guidelines for keeping your child home and for how long.

  • Has a fever of 100 degrees or higher during the previous evening, night or in the morning.
  • Has vomited or had diarrhea during the night or in the morning.
  • Has a rash that may be caused by a disease or if the cause is unknown, check with your family physician before sending the student to school.
  • Strep Throat: In cases of suspected or diagnosed strep throat, the child should be kept out of school until the diagnosis is made and/or treatment has been under way for at least 24 hours.
  • Chicken Pox: A child with chicken pox must be kept out of school for at least 5 days from the appearance of blisters. All pox MUST be crusted over and dry before returning to school.
  • Head Lice: A child with head lice must receive adequate treatment before coming back to school.

If student is at home sick, please call the school office to report the reason for absence. Please notify the school nurse if your child has a contagious condition like chicken pox, strep throat or head lice.

And finally, to prevent the spread of colds and other illnesses, remember to WASH YOUR HANDS!!
